Why it works

Putting the traction metric in the subject line is the fastest possible way to filter for interested investors. A busy VC will make the yes/no decision before opening the email.
Referencing a portfolio company proves you have done homework. It also signals market fit — "you already believe in this space."
Offering the deck before the call removes the coordination overhead. Many investors will say no to a call and yes to a deck. Once they have read the deck, the call becomes easy.
The email is short by design. VCs deal in compressed information. A long cold email signals you do not understand their time constraints.

Personalization tips

Only email investors who have explicitly invested in your stage and sector. An irrelevant cold email is worse than no email — it marks you as someone who did not do research.
Check Crunchbase, their firm website, and their Twitter/LinkedIn for recent investments and portfolio companies.
If you have a mutual connection, always mention them first: "Alex suggested I reach out." A warm intro converts 3x better than any cold email.

Common mistakes
